Lesson Plan: Watercolor with Straws

Goal: To use straws and watercolors to create an abstract piece of art.

Materials:

  • Watercolor

  • Brushes

  • Water

  • Tape

  • Watercolor paper

  • Straws

How to prep:

Tape the edges of the paper so that you have a clean, crisp edge when you are finished. Make sure you have all the other materials and if so, you may begin.

Directions for students:

Explain how they will put some watercolor on the paper and use the straw to blow it around. You will want a lot of water with this project as it is much easier to blow the paint if its consistency is thin.

How it looks:

Helpful Hints:

If students have difficult time blowing with the straw, have them hold the paper up to their mouths and blow on the paint directly.
