Lesson Plan: Stamping with Fruits and Veggies
Goal: to design mini squares of paper with patterns of fruit and veggie stamps and arrange the squares to create a finished piece.
Materials:
-
assorted fruits and veggies
-
paint
-
cardboard
-
printing paper
-
mating paper
-
scissors
-
glue
-
knife
-
paper plates
How to prep:
First cut the paper into squares of desired size. Then gather your fruits and veggies and cut them in half. Use the cardboard to blot the veggies and get all the excess juices out of them so they are ready for stamping. Next, pour the paint onto paper plates so that the colors don’t mix.
Directions for students:
Explain the idea of stamps and how you can repeat the shape multiple times to get a pattern. Show them how to use the stamps and then let them decorate their squares with two or three fruits/veggies.
How it looks:
Helpful Hints:
Try to have each student repeat their designs from one square on another square so they have multiple squares of the same pattern. This will create a unique piece once all four squares are put together. Also make sure all the juice is squeezed out of the fruits and veggies and don't use too much paint when you are stamping.
