Lesson Plan: Stained Glass Watercolor
Goal: To use tape and watercolor to break up a piece of paper and layer color to make it look like a stained glass window.
Materials:
-
Watercolor
-
Masking tape
-
Watercolor paper
-
Brush
-
Container for water
How to Prep:
Tape the edges of the paper so that once the piece is done, there is a straight margin. Make sure all the watercolors are clean and you have the rest of the materials.
Directions for Students:
First, explain how the tape will break up the paper into different sections. Help the students use tape to divide the paper into 4 sections. Next, explain how they should pick 3 colors for the whole thing because watercolors can overlap and if there’s too much color it might turn brown. Use the three chosen colors to fill in all the white space. Remind them that the more they overlap the cooler it will look!
What it looks like:
Helpful Hints:
Make sure all the white space is covered. Also remind the students that they want a little water with the paint but not too much. Lastly, try to have them pick 3 colors that are different so that you have a wide range to work with.
